Q: Do we hunt on private land?
A: No, the OWLL provides you the lodging that is located
within 30 miles of over 20,000 acres of South Dakota state
game production and public walk-in locations. It is
actually illegal in South Dakota to guide hunters on
public land which some outfits occasionally do. We
are only providing the lodging and amenities for the
hunters.
Q: Is blaze orange required?
A: It is not required by law, but we highly encourage
wearing either a blaze cap or vest. We can provide these
garments for you.
Q: Can I bring a dog for my pheasant hunt?
A: We encourage people to bring dogs. There is more joy
hunting with your own dog. We have kennels available
during your stay. The OWLL does not provide any hunting
dogs.
Q: How do we get the birds home?
A: Many of our hunters will take a cooler of birds on
the airplane on departure, others choose to donate some
of the their pheasants and take a smaller amount with
them. We are prepared to help you get your birds home
from South Dakota, in whichever method you choose.
Q: How is the late season pheasant hunting in South
Dakota?
A: The South Dakota Pheasant season usually ends the
first weekend in January. If your heart races at the
sound of 100+ birds flushing, then come hunting in
December. The pheasants are bunched up and very flighty
which makes for a challenging hunt. If cold weather
isn't a problem, late season hunting is a truly
memorable experience.
Q: Do we have long drives between hunts?
A: No, all of our pheasant hunting ground is within 30
miles of the OWLL facilities. Forty acres of
pheasant hunting is literally
"out-the-front-door". 1,000+ acres is within 5
miles of the OWLL.
Q: Do you have clay pigeons to shoot?
A: Yes, we have a skeet area dedicated to hone your
skills. The use is unlimited to our package hunters.
Clay pigeons and shells will not be provided.
Q: Are the pheasants wild or pen-raised?
A: COMPLETELY WILD Pheasants. South Dakota is home to
millions and millions of pheasants. Pheasants in
their natural surroundings of public land in the
Country's #1 State for pheasant hunting is our
focus at OWLL. |
